What's your end goal when you retire?

I'd like my home paid off long before I retire - I used to have this discussion when I rented with friends - if you rent and then you retire at 65 for example, where would you go? Would your savings allow you to private rent? Would you have to move into council provided home? Or would pension cover rent?

dude i can see 2 things wrong with the above. first you live with your parents and second you have no friendsMaidstone Prices - average reductions at 8.5% (£19,668) Feb 2012 - We thought the dudes were not allowed to drop prices?0 -

I want to be healthy, be able to pay the bills and eat three decent meals a day. A few quid left over for a bit of entertainment would also be welcome. I think being mortgage free plus having some sort of pension plan and savings will help in this aim. Not too fussed about the luxury holidays and golf club memberhip, if I can afford those things, then maybe. Still a few years to go, and a lot can happen between now and then.30 Year Challenge : To be 30 years older. Equity : Don't know, don't care much. Savings : That's asking for ridicule.0

Mortgage paid off and enjoying a relexing life and many holidays throughout the year.0

To make sure that I have plenty of activities to keep me satisfied and challenged, so far:
Bowls
Chess
Running
Cycling
Walking our dog
I am about 5-12 years away from retirement and I am just about to book some golf lessons, I did play a little in the past so I think this too may well become a retirement activity. We are also planning to spend 4/5 months in Spain during the winter, so the cold weather shouldn't interfere with the above.Chuck Norris can kill two stones with one birdThe only time Chuck Norris was wrong was when he thought he had made a mistakeChuck Norris puts the "laughter" in "manslaughter".I've started running again, after several injuries had forced me to stop0 -
I certainly wouldn't want to be renting .................... that's for sure!!
It's all academic for me as I collected my Pension LONG ago .... still working of course, I love it. It makes me chuckle when I spend my winter fuel allowance on a spring clean for my swimming pool ...

My goal for retirement is to make sure I have not missed out on too many things as a result of planning for it.0

Hopefully being comfortably off. Possible semi-working (like now), enjoying life and taking lots of breaks.MSE Forum's favourite nutter :T0 -
My goal is to actually make it to retirement age!
If I do, then to be happy, healthy and be with my family....I would rather have them than lots of money in the bank (I do have a private pension though)We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.0
