We are in a bubble, Dan.

This bubble extends from Hull, down to Penzance and all points South.

I doubt it. This type of job is for part time housewives and students who could 'get by' with or without this income.

dude, in my local tescos there are plenty of skilled guys like plumbers and electricans who now work there. my sister manages the store and this is how i know
Maidstone Prices - average reductions at 8.5% (£19,668) Feb 2012 - We thought the dudes were not allowed to drop prices?
  • Those jobs will be mostly partime, averaging around 4 hours per shift, saving Asda a lot of money as they won't have to pay for tea breaks/lunch and they get a fresh pair of legs after 4 hours, I am finding that a lot of Supermarkets are doing this! so no long term career prospect for the unemployed.

That fine for them and nothing wrong in that, but what about the next generation, how are they going to fund having mortgages and having a family if they only work 4 hourly shifts. No one is going to be lending them any kind of money on that pay, and if they have no means of fuelling the economy we are all up the creek without a paddle. Mind you they will have the Goverment to fall back on £26,000k just sitting waiting to be paid out!

Asda are looking to build around here. Good news as we only have Waitrose at the mo, so could do with the jobs and cheaper products.......

The business to support these 5,000 workers (if, indeed, either it, or they, exist) will have to come from somewhere, as Asda does nothing to increase the total volume of trade being done.

So that means either fewer jobs at its rivals as it takes sales from them or (more likely) even more small retailers being forced to close, with consequent lay-offs there.

Is this where 5,000 people are offered part time low waged employment, earning around £100-£200 per week, thus meaning the majority (apart from students) are still dependent on housing benefit, tax credits, council tax discount?

Where there are few full time employees, perhaps a few managers, actually lifted out of having to depend on the public purse?

How many jobs will be lost in other retail outlets etc to create the 5000? Whats the net impact on the dole queue....? As Asda probably do things more efficiently than the small retailers than the net result may be more unemployment surely?

I don't know if this is tongue in cheek or not.
Some people get about £50 per week which is a tenth of that.
