car tax question

Hello, everyone.

I bought a car last week and there is 8 days of tax left.

The garage said not to send off the log book in case it wasn't back in time for me to get the tax.

If I take the MOT certificate to the post office, and my insurance, will it matter that the log book is still in the previous keeper's name?

I can't do it on line or they will post the tax disk to the previous keeper's address!

thank you.

You just need the tear off slip from the V5 which was designed especially for this type of situation. You can then send off the rest of the V5 to register yourself as the new keeper. No need to wait

You should only have the green V5C/2 - the new keeper supplement part, which is in your name and you can use at a Post Office to tax the car.

It is the seller's responsibility to notify DVLA by sending the completed page 2 of the V5C to them.
