I apologise if my posts have come across as angry or ungrateful. I am genuinely grateful to everybody for taking the time to reply, even if it is not what I wanted to hear it is what I expected to be told.

Just to give a bit more background, I have applied for every job going, cleaning, shop work, care work, admin, but there's always somebody with more experience. I am registered with all the local agencies and chase them up reguarly. I have had my CV looked at by various different people, and paid to have it redesigned last year. I have my CV on every job website going, including linkedin, and have heard nothing from any of them. I am currently volunteering, and I am getting to go on a lot of training courses as part of this, at least one a week since last month.

I am sorry if I come across as negative, but it really is very hard not to when I believe I am doing all I can and still its not enough.

Anyway, thanks again, you have all given me food for thought.

The scatter gun approach doesn't work - I tried that, I am now concentrating my efforts on looking for work in the hospitality industry where I can actually earn a decent salary (scratching around on working tax credits and then jobseekers is not fun). If you want to work in hospitality then register on caterer.com and upload your CV. Tailor your CV to the jobs that you want and that you have the skills for.

Make the agencies work for you - even to the point of getting some temp work. They can be a pain but you need to be on at them every day because they won't call you...this is something that I learnt when I spent 3 years as a temp - loved the challenge of changing jobs every day, every week and sometimes every month. I know that a temporary admin person can earn around £8-10 an hour.

I must admit that I look at the websites where my CV is registered every single day to see if there is anything that I want to apply for - the thing with the sites is that you still need to apply for the jobs, they are not going to contact you.

I know that on caterer.com there are around 10,000 vacancies being advertised from chefs, bar work, hotel reception, concierge, event security etc. etc. On LinkedIn, join some of the groups on there that are relevant to what you are interested in and get involved on the conversation - something may come from that, I have picked up work that way before.

What do you have experience in?
