Where to go in Scotland???

Got a week off in March and are thinking of going up to Scotland for a few days.
Anyone got any ideas where to stay/visit?
Only ever been once before to the Loch Lomond region.

my tuppence-worth....i really enjoyed staying in fort augustus and then touring up to inverness, there was loads to see and do. it's a bit further up from loch lomond though. did the loch ness boat trip, visited a few castles, saw some truly epic scenery, went to culloden battle site, etc. etc.

also the area around ballater (where balmoral is) is truly lovely. very nice for a chilled out time.

killin in stirlingshire is popular as it's good walking country and has a bit to do around there too.

loch lomond is nice, me and my boyfriend got back from Kilchoan on Saturday, we wouldn't go again, the people that lived there just blanked us, when we smiled at the them or just turned their backs on us. How about near Fort William, That way you could visit Loch Lomond on your way up and back again.

I've stayed at Loch Lomond which was beautiful and the locals were very friendly and the last time I went upto Scotland we stayed at Oban which again we really enjoyed. If you stay there you can take a ferry over to the Isle of Mull and go to Tobermory (Balamory place) or Iona which is beautiful as well. Theres quite a lot of boat trips out from Oban to various places around and about. Next time we're thinking of going a bit higher up, maybe Inverness

Have a great time wherever you decide to go

I'd definitely recommend Loch Ness and the area around it - possibly including a drive through to the mountain finicular at Aviemore.

We've stayed several times as the Loch Ness Clansman Hotel although not for a couple of years. £59 pppn for a lochside room DBB (food is excellent) or possibly the BenLeva in Drumnadrochit - around £30 pppn B&B - bit grubby and rustic but the restaurant has great food and real ales if that is your thing.

Lovely area at that time of year when there should still be snow on the mountains but little chance of it ruining your holiday by hampering travel.

In Inverness I'd really recommend the River Cafe which has a fantastic range from light snacks to huge full meals and wonderful cakes to finish.

Fort William area is nice. We spent a lovely week in a caravan there, right at the foot of Ben Nevis.

I was surprised to read the comments about Kilchoan. We had a look round there before getting the ferry to Balamory and the locals were friendly.
Here I go again on my own....

I love the Trossachs. Callander, Aberfoyle, Strathyre, Killin. All on the road up towards Fort William. You drive through most of these places on the way.
If you go through Glen Coe to Fort William, make sure you turn off and drive the couple of miles to the village of Killin which is just north of Crianlarich. There is a lovely waterfall there worth a look.
    I love Scotland. Beautiful country.

I'd like to just add to my above comment, that, that is the first horrible experience we've had in Scotland, we've been a few times before, but to the cities and loved it, that's why we do keep going back.
Becles, I was suprised as well, but it wouldn't stop me from visiting Scotland again, it's a beautiful country!
