We have been looking at a Ford Focus 1.8TDCi (58 reg). I have never has a ford or a diesel. We currently have a 1.6 Meriva and it's a bit of tank. Any do you have any views on the focus? (positive or negative)
I love MSE freebies and comps. Thanks posters

I had one for a time, nothing wrong with it at all really but the 1.6tdci (115) is quieter, smoother and more economical. Nobody really wants the 1.8 so unless its substantially cheaper than the equivalent 1.6 I personally wouldn't bother0

It's £7600 with around 27k miles on the clock.I love MSE freebies and comps. Thanks posters0 -
I honestly have no feel for the prices of any focus at the moment, all you can do is compare it with 1.6 and 2 litre cars of the same age and mileage. Gut reaction is that that's high, and mileage is a bit low for a diesel car. Short journeys (if that's how its made its miles) aren't very good for them
*edit a quick scout shows the price as nothing special, id look for a 1.6*0 -

I borrowed one a couple of weeks ago and I was very impressed with the way it drove. It seemed have bags of poke and handled very well. The engine was very quiet for a diesel.0

The family have had three Ford Focus's ......... we like them .
Ps a lot of people like them , thats why they sell so many.0 -
Hubby has this model on an 08 plate. I have a 59 plate 1.6 Tdci.
The 1.8 has a better pick up, however the engine is noisier and not as smooth as the 1.6. He gets approx 48 mpg in it and when I'm driving it I get 50-51 mpg. However I get 58-60 mpg in the 1.6, he gets 53-54 mpg.
I've had 3 diesel Focuses and hubby liked mine so much that he got one.
I think that price is OK for a Zetec or above, or at least it is for my area.0 -
Well people do buy them by the thousand, and road testers do go on about the sports car handling.
I've driven the company pool cars and underwhelmed was my overall feeling, as usual with Ford Diesels i stall the things several times because there is no guts at low revs, then i was expecting this huge surge of power everyone raves about mid range....and i'm still waiting to feel it, though i did feel every pot hole, every white line, every speed hump, every cats eye, and heard them all too well.
Vastly overrated was my feeling, i won't be buying one.0
