Washing machine waste plumbing- advice needed

Hi, I thought I was being really clever and saving money by plumbing in my own new washing machine- it's the first time I've done it, but I've seen it done before and did some google research and it seemed fairly simple.
It's all done and I put it on for a test cycle but it won't drain. It's showing an Error message which the manual says is to do with the pump and to contact the manufacturer. I just wanted to check if it's to do with the waste plumbing though so would welcome any advice.
The waste outlet pipe on the back of the machine is at the top right hand corner. I have passed it thorough a cupboard to the sink outlet, where there is a spigot trap. Initially the pipe is almost level, and then the last bit drops down about 10cm onto the spigot.
The alternative is to cut a hole lower down the cupboard side so the outlet pipe drops maybe 20cm when it leaves the machine but it would then rise again to join the spigot, so it forms a U shape.
Can anyone advise if the problem is likely to be the way the waste is plumbed, or do I need to contact the manufacturer due to a fault with the machine? I'd be really grateful for any help you could give.

Take the pipe off run the sink tap, does water come out of the spigot ?
if no, its blocked, undo it and remove the plug in the spigot.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0 -
Ahhh, never even thought of something like that! Yet it's so obvious- until today there was nothing on the spigot yet it's not been leaking. Never occured to me it was blocked off.
Thanks! These forums are amazing for all the help and advice!Halifax Credit Card: [STRIKE]£4915[/STRIKE] NEXT Directory: [STRIKE]£1980[/STRIKE]JD Williams: [STRIKE]£1984[/STRIKE] British Gas: [STRIKE]£394[/STRIKE] First Direct [STRIKE]£2985[/STRIKE]Debt-free for over 2 years now!!! :j0 -
Seconded. When I moved in here I attached the outlet hose to the spigot on the waste system without checking that it was actually open (it was moulded closed - so the end needed to be cut off). I was so busy messing around under the utility sink trying to get the hose straight and attached correctly that I forgot to check this basic fact.0

Thank you!
I am now sat here with big grin on my face feeling stupidly, insanely proud of myself for having plumbed in my washing machine!!!
It might sound a samll thing to some of you, but it's the first time I've ever done anything like that (my ex always did those sort of things) and so it's a big thing to me!! :j
It's also saved me the £50 extra that Argos would have charged to deliver it and install it- much needed money!Halifax Credit Card: [STRIKE]£4915[/STRIKE] NEXT Directory: [STRIKE]£1980[/STRIKE]JD Williams: [STRIKE]£1984[/STRIKE] British Gas: [STRIKE]£394[/STRIKE] First Direct [STRIKE]£2985[/STRIKE]Debt-free for over 2 years now!!! :j0
