Lakeland do packs of little carrots but at nearly £2.50 for a pack of twelve are very expensive.
I bought a little silicone mould from an ebay shop for a couple of pounds,it makes identical carrots as the ones from Lakeland but they cost almost nothing to make.
I always spend a free hour now and then making sugar cake decorations, they dry and store well and save me a fortune as I do a lot of baking for local coffee shops.
Carrot cake being one of the most popular bakes.

Is it one like this you have? I love doing cupcakes and would like to make my own toppers but I would be rubbish at doing them freehand!
  • Mine makes them slighty bigger but its the same sort of mould.
I dust the mould with cornflour first,it brushes off easily when you unmould.
They're easy to do with the mould with a little practice.
Just don't expect perfection first time round.

Thanks for the tips, I think I may go for this mould... Looks a bit bigger and the cupcakes I make are pretty large! :)

I didn't know they were available from Lakeland, what is the item number?

On mine and in mine - the very best carrot cakes are stuffed full of them!

Thanks for posting this thread OP, was wondering what to do with the leftover decoration from the Mary Berry Christmas cake kit - couldn't bear to throw it away! - and now I know. It just never occurred to me that I would have reason to make them but now I shall, I shall just wait for a miserable Sunday afternoon next month :D

Any chance we can see the pictures if you attempt to make the carrots?

Does anyone know where you can purchase moulds with small pieces of fruit, 1cm - 2cm, for mini cupcakes?
