How do you make or where do you purchase the little carrots that are on top of some carrot cakes, like M&S have on their carrot cake in their restaurants?

I dont know about M&S - but when I do the little carrots - they are made with almond paste or marzipan with orange colouring added. very easy to do really!
you could use fondant icing too.
sorry - forgot to say - I do the foliage with this little gadget from an old set of play doh! presses out tiny 'fronds'. my SIL uses her (well washed) garlic press.0 -

What do you use to shape the carrot or is there a gadget you can get so they turn out the perfect shape?0 -
I like walnuts on mine.
Thanks for posting this thread OP, was wondering what to do with the leftover decoration from the Mary Berry Christmas cake kit - couldn't bear to throw it away! - and now I know. It just never occurred to me that I would have reason to make them but now I shall, I shall just wait for a miserable Sunday afternoon next monthValue-for-money-for-me-puhleeze!

Are they all made on the same basis?
Yes, just buy the marzipan and food colouring. We painted ours with tiny paintbrushes. What do you use to shape the carrot or is there a gadget you can get so they turn out the perfect shape?
Your hands!!! Its very easy to roll a long cone shape and put a few carroty looking marks on it.0 -
Lakeland do packs of little carrots but at nearly £2.50 for a pack of twelve are very expensive.
I bought a little silicone mould from an ebay shop for a couple of pounds,it makes identical carrots as the ones from Lakeland but they cost almost nothing to make.
I always spend a free hour now and then making sugar cake decorations, they dry and store well and save me a fortune as I do a lot of baking for local coffee shops.
Carrot cake being one of the most popular bakes.0 -
will try to describe how to make marzipan carrots! start with a marble sized peice of marzipan. roll it between your hands and increase the pressure on one side -keep rolling until one side disappears! this should be carrot shaped!0

You could pipe them with royal icing. There's a bit of a knack to it but it's really quite easy.

These could be made well in advance and will last longer than ones made of fondant icing - just keep them in an airtight jar. Royal icing is also great for doing little flowers to go on top of cupcakes. Link here about how to pipe flowers0
