Ppi claims company

Options
I was contacted on Friday night by a company called capital claims who said I could possibly claim money from my previous loans, cards and morgages. They said I would need to pay an upfront fee of £295 so the paperwork could be done. I explained I didn't have that kind of money available so they said they would mention the case to their boss next week and possibly charge me the £295 once the money came through. Has anyone been approached by this company or is it a scam. Also has anyone tried to claim ppi from companies that don't charge or have you done it youreself.

Many thanks

Claire

The complaints process is free-of-charge. So, why would you want to put your complaint in via a company that charges you an amount up front and a percentage of any payout and probably has a lower success rate than a personalised complaint because they either make things up (which can be proven wrong) or use a template letter the same as you get on the web. (template letters are generally regarded as having a lower success rate than personalised letters)

  • Thank you for you're honest advice it has helped tremendously!!! I have been thinking about doing it myself but with no paperwork I thought it would not be impossible!!! I have read so many posts with different answers on how long you can claim back to, I also wouldn't no addresses of where to send the letter to. I wish I could find out about all my previous credit history.

    Once again thank you.

The addresses are on the website of the providers involved (i.e. banks and credit card providers). Complaint letters dont need to be war and peace. Short, simple and to the point complaints which are easier for a complaint handler at a bank to read and understand work best. Complaints which have reasons applicable to you and not made up reasons work better.

It is really easy and shouldnt be daunting. Some reasons are hard to prove and whilst are mis-sales, the lack of evidence can mean you wont be successful. However, other areas require the company to prove it or they have set it up in a way that is deemed wrong. So, you need do little more than register a complaint with very little effort.

  • You can look up the firm's contact details here.

If you have access to a fax (or a fax modem on your computer) that is normally a good choice as it gives you a receipt (it is also quicker and cheaper)
  • Thanks for all your'e help!!! I have been contacted by the same company at lunchtime and they were still asking for £295 upfront, I explained I do not have that kind of money and that I was going to claim myself!!!! they said I would not get all the money owing to me and I would miss out on penalty bonuses.

    Many thanks

they said I would not get all the money owing to me and I would miss out on penalty bonuses.

They lied and you should report them to their regulator, the ministry of justice so they can take action to prevent less sensible or more vulnerable people being conned by them.

Claims companies use the same free-of-charge complaints process as you would. The same person at the bank looks at the complaint under the same FSA rules. The redress method is defined by the FSA and not open for debate.

It is believed that claims companies actually have a lower success rate than personalised complaints.
