Redundancy, jsa and csa

Hi Unsure where to put this post hope its in the right place but my partner has just been told he is to be made redundant in a months time. What I would like to know is does he claim contribution based jsa in a month when he has left the company or can he claim now, as they do not want him to work his notice period? I am presuming he will be able to claim for us both even though I have a house with my ex husband at the moment as it is contribution based jsa and I do not have a job. Also I am presuming csa will be deducted from his jsa?

If anyone can let me know if I am correct or not would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

No he can't claim now, although he is not working his notice is will still officially be employed until the final date on his redundancy letter. Presuming he is getting paid for that month obviously. He will then need to make a claim and they will assess him for contribution based and income based jsa. Of course any redundancy pay he receives may have an effect on whether he actually receives any benefit.
Also CSA will not automatically be taken from benefit unless he contacts them asking for this to happen.
As for claiming for you, do you have a child in your household? If you do he can claim for you as well but you will have to declare the house with your ex as any income you receive from the house etc may affect your claim

Hi I have just registered this evening and im not sure this is on the right page but I would like some help/advice. My partener lost his business 2 years ago then found a job then got laid off just before his 3 month trial was up. He did not register as umemployed at the jobcentre until April 2011. He did not receive any money benefit but they did pay just over £400 towards mortgage which is in his name only. This stopped in September 2011 as they said we had more money comming in than we need to live on. I work part time 19 1/2 hours a week which works out to just over £500 a month, I also receive working tax credit and child tax credit. We have the house up for sale as cant afford mortgage as its just over £1100 per month. We are now in arrears with the mortgage and my partner went back to jobcentre to try and get help but they still say he is not entitled to anything. He tried to explain the mortgage is in his name only but they not interested and said I need to pay it but I pay bills, food and clothing from the money I receive. Is this correct???? Is he not entitled to any benefit whatsoever?
Thanks for taking the time to read this and apologies for waffling on.

Hi, unfortunately this is correct, because you are living together as a couple any earnings you have will have an effect on what or if he is entitled to claim anything. It doesn't matter that the mortgage is in his name only, it is still the family home. Have you informed tax credits that he is not working? Tax credits are obviously worked out based on the previous years household income, however if they are not aware that he is no longer working you may be missing out on getting more money from the working tax side, you can actually ask them to re-assess your entitlement based on the current years income which should make a difference. Hope that helps.
