Where do people advertise cars these days?

So I'm looking for a car for the OH but I'm wondering where people advertise cars these days. I've tried the usual - Auto Trader, ebay etc but they seem to be full of trade ads and hardly any private sellers. Are there better places to look for private ads?

When calling, say I am calling about the car for sale !
If they ask which one, hang up they will be illegal auction house dealers and sell you a pile of scrap.
So remember, no name, no make, no colour just call "about the car for sale"Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0 -

everytime i look at private sellers adverts i see they are no such thing
if you really want a genuine car try an auction house that has dealer px es but be aware even here you may well buy a lemon0 -
Why do you want to buy from private seller only?
If you don't know much about cars, I would be careful.
Buying from a private seller does not ensure you will get a good deal and you have no guarantee.

In my experience not all car dealers are crooked but a lot are. Almost every time I've bought from a non-franchised dealer I've had problems so I just don't think the premium charged is worth it. For example, the last time the OH bought a car the speedo packed in. It was back to the dealer three times and they still couldn't fix it - I ended up fixing it myself.0 -
The last car I bought was off an Ebay classified ad. This not not an auction, just a one page detailed advert that shows up on Ebay searches. Apparently it's much more economical to use Ebay classifieds if you need your listing to stay up longer term. The actual transaction had nothing to do with Ebay and I don't recall Feedback being part of the process either.
Meanwhile recently a relative bought a car on an Ebay auction - had to apply due diligence on seeing the vehicle on collection and paying cash, of course.
BTW Ebay does offer a cheap HPI (finance) check at around £15, to check if car has been written off or is actually secured by a finance company.0 -
I don't trust any car dealer. My old man is one, enough said.
I buy privately, ask questions about things like cambelts, waterpumps etc and see what the sellers attitude and answers are like. Thats the deal breaker for me.0 -
Local papers usually have classified used car ads. (T) in ad identifies a trader. If you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales0
