But should the main driver be the registered keeper or doesn't it matter nowadays?

Legally it doesn't matter (indeed the registered keeper doesn't have to be the owner), however many on-line systems get confused if those 3 options aren't the same person

The registered keeper and main driver can be different (until recently I was the registered keeper of our car, even though I don't drive - my OH was the main driver). However, we did find it limited our options when it came to looking for insurance. To get an online quote or use a comparison sites, in most cases we found you are asked to confirm that the owner, registered keeper and main driver are all the same person. If you phone up individual companies, they can usually give you a quote, but I'd suggest you should avoid having the two different if you can. (Obviously you have to be honest about who the main driver really is).

    I've never had a problem.
    We swapped several cars ago.
I'm policyholder and main driver on my wife's car, and vice versa.
When we replace them, we just register them to each other.

I suppose next time we change we should try to remember to register them both to her, them one to me again the time after.
(Hers is due to change next)
