Hi
I moved out of a rented property on the 23rd of december. I didnt know i had to cancel my standing order and i had my rent taken out on that day for the next month.
I rang natwest and told them about it on the same day, she said as there was no money in the account available it wouldent have gone through (it was a seperate account just for rent). She said she would cancel it from now and everything would be fine.
Ive been in the USA since the 26th and havent been able to check on it. I presumed everything was okay. Clearly not.
I came back to a load of voice messages and got in touch. A man said that he wanted to discuss my debt!
He claimed there was no record of it being cancelled and theres nothing he can do but pass it on as an unauthorised payment. Which takes upto 10 days.
Any advice as to what i should do? ive got 19 days of unpaid items and dont want another 10 on top!
Thanks in advance

Ignorance is no excuse.
Where is your 6/12 month cash buffer ?
Are you saying that you are potless ? If so, why go on holiday ?
Draw money on a credit card perhaps and put it in your bank or better arrange a short term overdraft for the amount required.0 -
I am very confused by how you have 19 days of unpaid items when you only use the account for rent?:heartsmil When you find people who not only tolerate your quirks but celebrate them with glad cries of "Me too!" be sure to cherish them. Because these weirdos are your true family.0

I admit that it was my fault for not cancelling the standing order sooner. But thats a little harsh..
It is a very old account, one that i only used for rent (house share), i allways had a buffer in there when we were renting, but i didnt because i thought the last rent had been payed.
I have no problem paying the debt financially, but she assured me on the day that i wouldent have any charges because there was no money in the account and she had cancelled it on the same day as it came out.
Whats most annoying is the fact they flat out deny even having this conversation!0 -

I never trust promises made by people at the other end of the phone. The only way is to do it yourself either by writing to cancel the dd and handing the letter (hand delivered) over the counter or sending by post by recorded delivery. Anyway I think you should write to them now and tell them about the phone conversation and what was promised etc. They record all calls don't they?? for quality and training purposes etc!! Did you get the name of the lady you spoke to?
Presumably you had already given notice to your landlord/letting agent. Can't you get them to refund you the money that's gone into their account.
I would go in and speak to someone senior at the bank anyway to report what you were told on the phone0
