Help plumbing tips!

Hi! I have hot water running but no cold water. Luckily had a shower before this problem started. Heard a noise as if the central heating was coming on. Then went to bathroom, no water. Same downstairs. Is this an air block or empty tank? The tank is nearly level with the ceiling so god knows how I'll look into it! No access from roof. Thank~you! Very stressed! :-)

Have you checked with your neighbours that they have water?

Hot water but no cold suggest storage tank for hot, in which case you won't have hot for long. Tried all taps?

More info needed, timescale, system etc.
or is this a cryptic question,

Do you have an airing cupboard with a tank and immersion heater ? That's where your hot water is coming from and it's filling from the tank in the loft, if you have no cold water probably the tank will be empty soon.
Your fault must be in the main cold supply to the house, if you've not turned it off (under the sink), then someone else has turned it off out in the street.
With some older properties the 'stop' in the street may serve several houses. Check with your neighbours to see if any of them are doing work in their houses so have turned off the supply, or if their water is off, then maybe the Water company may have turned it off to do repairs.
