I want to move my Computer upstairs but have no Telephone socket. I cannot find an extension cable long enough. I have looked on BT's website but cannot find out how much it would cost to have an extension upstairs. I do not want an extra line just another phone socket to plug the phone and router in. Does anyone know how much it would cost?

BT will charge you upwards of £130 & over.Better way (cheaper too) would be to look in the yellow pages for a spark or any competant DIY'er can do it for around £20.

I would still need to find a long enough telephone extension cable to get someone to it but then if i did i'd do it myself. I'd need one at least 60ft long. what do you mean by a spark?0

I may just get a new router to go wirelessly instead. Thanks to those who have helped.0

I do but i've lost the password to the router so i'm having to use it via the ethernet wires, the blue or yellow cables you get with it.
Then do a reset on the router...why on earth buy a new one if you've lost the password?
If you get a local DIY'er in to do the extension, they can supply the cable-or any electrical wholesaler will stock it.
Bear in mind that a 60ft phone extension lead will impact on your broadband speed-a pair of Homeplugs, or a wireless connection, might be better, thus leaving the router on the master socket. No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
Leave the router where it is and extend your Ethernet connection using a pair of Homeplugs.
For example http://www.amazon.co.uk/TP-Link-TL-PA211KIT-200Mbps-Powerline-Ethernet/dp/B004INVKP4/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1327249478&sr=8-1
Its never advisable to use and extension with a router. If you do go tha way you need to buy an ADSL compatible extension.
Or if you want to go wireless tell us the make and model of your router and we can advise how to discover your passcode..That gum you like is coming back in style.0
