Freesat "problem".

I have a Humax Freesat HD set top box which has been perfect since purchase. It indicates a signal strength of 90% and signal quality of 100%.
Just purchased a Panasonic TX - L37DT30B television which has Freesat HD built in. Connected up the dish downlead to the tv and the Freesat will not tune. Firstly states Astra 2 found, press ok to tune. Immediately message changes to Astra 2 not found and doesn't tune. Signal and quality show zero!
I know it's not my connecting skill or lack of because I've tried a few times with the same result. How can you screw on a connector incorrectly? Re-connecting the Humax box presents no issues, it still works. I only need to push the cable into the Humax for it to work without securing it!
Will this be a problem with the tv's Freesat tuner or am I possibly missing something?
This is the second Panasonic set I've had problems with in as many weeks. The first was sent back because of light bleed onto the screen. Ironically this set has nil light bleed. A return to the seller, who have been excellent, has been arranged but if I'm possibly doing something wrong then the return can be cancelled if it will tune the Freesat. Everything else on the set works as it should.

If you post this problem in

    http://forums.digitalspy.co.uk/forumdisplay.php?f=142

there are a lot of very knowledgable people, famiiar with all brands of televisions and their tuning problems with freesat, who will be able to offer advice.

You will need to subscribe to the forum in the same way as you subscribe to this one. The site has specialist forums on all aspects of broadcasting - the page I have pointed you to is the specialist Freesat forum.

If you've got a perfect signal on the Humax, pull the sat lead out of that (do you have 2 feeds to try?) and instert it into the panasonic correctly, as you describe, then you should be getting a signal and I can only assume that the freesat tuner in it isn't working. At least now you know they don't all have backlight bleed!
  • Maybe the cable from the dish is faulty? I know it's unlikely, but if you had problems with the previous set top box, it's a possibility...
  • Disconnect the cable from the Humax and connect it straight to the TV. If it still doesn't work then it is most likely a problem with the TV. First look at the instructions to make sure that it is set up and being tuned correctly. If you still cannot get anywhere then it's most likely faulty.
  • I am only a novice, but try switching off the Hummy at the wall For two mins(guess), and ditto the Telly, then switch the cable , then power up the TV , also if this doesn't work, which knowing my knowledge of Satellite and TVs(except the Hummy and the wonderful modding ability) it may be worth posting on Avforums too
