for the past couple of weeks my playstation internet has stopped working.

It says
signel strength: Not connected
Obtained ip address: failed

Weak access point

How can I fix this, as it stopped working for no reason.

This is either your router or the wireless connector on the PS3.

As you're posting (via a pc?) I would go for the PS3 fault.

    Can you hard wire it?

Could have burnt out if it's constantly used.

Just because you don't use it, doesn't mean it's not running!

The wireless will be constantly receiving and transmitting.
