I read somewhere that if you put mustard on a cats feet it will stop him going out and wandering, can anyone confirm if this is true.

Is your cat neutered?
Mustard/butterwon't help, neutering will.0 -
oh yes, he has been done, he is 14 years old.0

It's meant to be butter. Didn't do it with mine though.0

I thought the idea with butter on paws was that the cat has to stop & lick it off and it forces them to stop and take note of their surroundings. I don't know why you would use mustard, wouldn't that hurt the cat's mouth?Public appearances now involve clothing. Sorry, it's part of my bail conditions.0

I dont believe you lather it on like a hot dog, just a little spot, perhaps a mild mustard like French is more the idea.0 -
Do NOT put mustard on your cat's feet unless you want a cat with a very upset tum and possibly explosive front and back end.
Saturnalia is correct in what the theory is - cat has to clean feet so gets used to suroundings but it is something of an old wives tale.
Keep cat indoors for a while (recommendations vary from a day to a month) depends on the cat. Basically they need to feel happy, secure and settled in their new home and then one day let them outside when they are hungry i.e. before breakfast for a little while - so they come back for food.0 -

we have been here 8 years, how long does it take?0 -
Why do you want him to stop wandering? Some cats do wander, its their nature. Others are quite happy never to leave the house/garden. If you are trying to curb his nature you might as well go to the beach and try to stop the tide coming in.0

I am concerned that he will be involved in an accident.0 -
Tod123 is a well-known troll, he's got bored with the Arms & DT and is straying to other parts of the forum. (Mustard? Seriously?) Please don't encourage him by responding.:heartpuls Mrs Marleyboy :heartpuls
