Faulty Electric Meter?
I have just gone to read my electric meter, having received a reminder to put in my online readings, only to find there is no reading.
I have the small newer type electric meter which usually flashes between the reading showing which I think shows it is working. The lcd screen has no figures whatsoever, no flashing other than a red light flashing, which I have never seen before. I always read my own meter so am used to doing this and have never had this before. No problems with the electric, that is working fine.
Dont want to ring the emergency number as clearly not an emergency, but just wondered if anyone had come across this before.

Report it to your Electricity Supplier0

The flashing usually means the meter is registering electricity usage (1 flash per watt typically but can vary) but the issue with the LCD screen not working should be referred to your supplier who will send somebody out to play with it. Uh, I mean fix it0

I tried that but the online contact form did not work and their phonelines are not open today. I will be ringing them in the morning as instructed today.Neil_Jones wrote: »The flashing usually means the meter is registering electricity usage (1 flash per watt typically but can vary) but the issue with the LCD screen not working should be referred to your supplier who will send somebody out to play with it. The meter usually flashes green, which means it is registering use, but this is flashing red which is not usual. I spoke to someone on the emergency helpline today and after speaking to an engineer I have been told the meter probably needs replacing and to speak to my supplier tomorrow.
I was just wondering if anyone knew what happens to my usage if the meter is faulty, is the only record my meter or is there some other record elsewhere? I last read the meter on 20 November, a final reading as changing supplier, so they have a reasonably recent reading, but being I am now with a new supplier just wondering what will happen.0 -
The consumption will be estimated, invariably this is in your favour. No free lunch, and no free laptop0

The new meters can be bought back to life, and do have a backup reading. They will most probably replace it.Don't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.0
