Guess it is going to vary massively depending on the size of the house/how long you are in it/ how warm you like it etc

But I live alone in a 3 bed house and its 85 quid a month for gas and electricity HTH

If I was to properly heat this house, ~1500/year.
At the moment, it's 5C in here.
I'm saving the money I would have otherwise spent for insulation works.
After these are completed - 300/year or so for heating the bit of the house I will be using to normal levels.

    Looking at it another way:

E.On SaveOnline 11 Tier 1 (Not Prepayment meter)

    Electricity: 24.15p x 900kWh = £217.35 less discounts = £199.96
    Gas: 8.316p x 2680kWh = £222.86 less discount = £205.03

So, you have to pay £405 a year for the expensive units before you start on the cheaper Tier 2. This is equivalent to £34 a month.

Since most people use more than that, £34 is a baseline to start from.

I live in a 2nd floor 2 bedroom flat & pay £63 a month for gas & electricity roughly £756 per year but I am on a budget so you mite pay more.

I'm all electric, detached, not greatly insulated, rural bungalow with a single stove (£50 - £60 / year on coal) and two air con units for heating. I pay £30/month but probably average around £23 so always end up around £80 in credit at the end of the year. I only heat the living room to 19C and the rest of the house to around 10-11C in winter. If I heated the rest of the house to 18C it would double or triple my winter usage so I don't bother. I prefer to wear a fleece instead so I don't notice the temp drop between rooms.

How long is a piece of string? It's quite impossible for anyone to tell you this without knowing: the property/insulation, the type of heating available, and your lifestyle. It can vary by several hundred percent. Some people on here spend £500pa on gas and electricity, others £4,000.
I suggest you start by asking your parents what their annual bills are for gas/electricity/water/Council Tax (and all the other bills too): that will give you some basis to start at.
One thing to remember is that electric heating is very much more expensive than gas, typically 300% more.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)
