Goulash in slow cooker

Back to me making goulash. Might (just might) try it in the slow cooker and with stewing steak.
I buy packets from Austria for goulash (I know, awful, but they taste great and you can't buy them over here).
I usually brown me meat, bung the packet in with the required amount of water, loads of paprika and bobs your uncle.
Will it work in a slow cooker, if I just put the uncooked meat in and the water and packet and paprika over the top?

pollyanna - it should work fine, although you may wish to brown your meat first although this is optional. You will probably want to reduce the amount of liquid somewhat as it doesn't evaporate like it does if you make it in a pan or oven.0

It should work really well in the slow cooker...there are a couple of recipes on this thread that might help you: Recipe for Goulash

I usually make this from braising steak and cook it on the hob for about 2 hours.
I admit I cheat and use packets I get from Austria.
I wouldn't mind trying to make this in the slow cooker because I could then use stewing steak which is cheaper, but the last time I made something with a lot of sauce, it went completely wrong and I dont want to end up wasting good meat and packets!
The amount of water I use is either 1/2 litre or a litre mixed with the packet mix and then I add liberal amounts of paprika on top.
Does this kind of recipe sound feasible in the slow cooker with that amount of liquid? Does the liquid boil down like it does on the hob?Pink Sproglettes born 2008 and 2010

I make beef goulash all the time in my SC and its fab and dead easy, heres how I do it:D
1lb stewing meat(usually cost about £2)
2 med onions, chopped
1 red pepper, chopped
4oz mushrooms, sliced
3tbsp flour
1oz butter or marg
2 x tsp paprika
4 x tbsp tom paste
1 x pint beef stock
salt & pepper
Cut beef into cubes and tosh in flour.
Fry onions, peppers for about 5mins until soft, add meat and cook for a further 5 mins or until brown. Stir in tom paste, seasoning and any left over flour. Add paprika, mushrooms and cook for 1 min. Gradually stir in stock and bring to the boil. Transfer to slow cooker.
Cook on low for about 8 hours.
I tend to serve it with soft noodles or the flat pasta stuff IYKWIM.

Yes! I buy my packets in Germany and have made lots of goulash in the slowcooker with no problems. He who asks is a fool for five minutes, but he who does not ask remains a fool forever.

My recipe said to for 500g stewing steak 1/2 tin toms 3tbsp puree, 3tsp mixed herbs 1tsp nutmeg, 1 tsp paprika 200ml red wine [optional] and 200ml beef stock plus the meat coated in flour and browned and veg fried until soft. Season to taste. It was scrummy!

Any supermarket, really, couldn't give you a link. "Knorr" or "Maggi" are two companies that make goulash (or 'Gulasch' in German) packet mixes.
Or try the German Deli shop in London https://www.germandeli.co.uk/sess/utn;jsessionid=1543cd5fc0a6e3c/shopdata/0130_Cooking+Sauces/product_overview.shopscriptHe who asks is a fool for five minutes, but he who does not ask remains a fool forever.
