Edf standard variable

I was on online saver 7 by edf which finished in december so am now on their standard tariff. Now the only options are fixed tariffs until 2013 and 2014. On comparison websites the cheapest ones are also fixed. Is it better to stay on the standard tariff as the rate will probably get cut in the summer? I'm surprised there are such few variable rate tariffs available these days!

If we knew the answer, we'd all jump the same way. No one knows if prices will fall again, or if so by how much.

Also remember even if there are headlines about edf cutting rates it is only the average which is being cut. It does not necessarily mean your region will see their bills going down. Utility companies pick and choose where to cut according to where they can get away it.

I don't really get why but I only seem to have spent £650 on the actual gas and electric charge last year not including discounts (and counting actual cost not the direct debit I paid) but this year it estimates £1090 if using the same number of kwh as last year on the standard tariff. The cheapest tariff only brings it down to about £937 which is why I'm hesitant on fixing. Either energy has gone up that much this year or the online saver 7 tariff they had was amazing!
