Welcome to the MSE forums adeleyvonne2003
If you are in a Vigin Media cabled area, you can dump your landline completely and just retain cable broadband for your internet and VoIP telephony.
If you are not, you need to keep a BT landline in order to get ADSL broadband.
There have been a number of others threads about Tesco VoIP in the past 2 years.
THIS is one and you'll find 20 others HERE.Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0 -
Thanks Heinz - no-one I know has it therefore had no second opinion - didn't know about the previous enquiries as this was my first time here - thought it would be the best place to ask - Gonna go for it now (I do have virgin media cable) Thanks for everything - you're a star0

If you have cable broadband you might want to go another route other than Tesco VoIP as Tesco are one of the dearer providers.
There are other ATAs for under £50 and then you can use a cheaper than tesco provider, even Sipgate are cheaper than Tesco. It's PAC not PAC Code, it's MAC not MAC Code, it's PIN not PIN Number, it's ATM not ATM Machine, it's LCD not LCD Display, it's DVD not DVD disc... It's no one not noone, It's a lot not alot, It's got not gotten... Panini is the plural of panino - there is no S!!(OK my English isn't great, the sciences, maths & IT are my strong points!)0
