Compensation from faulty spark plugs

Options
Hi, I've tried a google search but to no avail but basically I'm wondering if I would be entitled to compensation from ngk spark plug manufacturers for severe damage to my cars engine caused by a faulty spark plug falling apart and dropping into the combustion chamber and smashing its way round the engine breaking valves and scratching the cylinders resulting in around £650 worth of damage, the spark plugs themselves are less than 6 months old I still have the box I bought them in but no receipt but I did buy them with my card so the bank will have the date and proof I bought them from halfords, does anybody think this is worth investigating or would I have no chance proving the spark plug was the cause, (the middle electrode of the plug fell out so it's nothing to do with improper fitting or anything like that and im not happy about paying all that money to fix an otherwise reliable and well maintained engine that wouldn't have failed otherwise if it wasn't for their faulty part) thanks in advance for any advice.

what Nm did you torque them to?
  • I fitted them myself, which I suppose won't help my case but still the fault was nothing to do with incorrect fitting.
  • They were finger tight then I applied slight pressure with a spark plug wrench but only very slight as I'm aware the damage over tightening can cause.

    you're aware
however no doubt NGK will have a specified Nm fitting torque
you would be looking at proving the plug is faulty, most likely
    not easy
first port of call would be Halfords

Yea I thought that would be the case and with the circumstances of it all it would be hard to prove with any clarity it was faulty other than showing them a broken spark plug that could have come from anywhere from their point of view. Thanks for the reply anyway, I'll try halfords and see if they can be any help!
