Hope someone can help. My laptop comes on, loads everthing ok but the screen is flickering intermittently. Also has lines across it. Everthing works, it's just the screen that seems to going, it does stop occasionally and is normal but i'm worried now that it's going to cost me an arm or a leg to repair. Is it repairable ??

Can you connect a standard monitor into the laptop and see how that works, or not? Many laptops are capable of doing that, although there is probably a keyboard combination required to enable the external monitor.
That might help narrow down where the problem lies.

    good suggestion.

If the flickering is vertical it usually points to the inverter (cheap) or screen (maybe around £80 for a new screen), if horizontal, then this usually means graphics (expensive) - but see what the external monitor test does.

I don't have access to an external monitor, the flickering is horizontal :( might have to ask my friends husband to check on his monitor. Thanks for the advice. x I'm using it to post. now, doesn't sound like good news !

Thats a good idea....maybe, just maybe, the plug that connects the screen to the motherboard is not 100% home, or just needs the contacts cleaned, maybe....anyways it will probably require a techie to check that out for you.

    Good luck

    No it doesn't...

Screen cable can and usually is the cause.

Had the same issue with a sony b ut also had parts of text missing and changing colour at times which I thought was the screen and turned out to be another fault, I guess a graphics problem but never bothered to try to fix it as as when I replaced the screen the graphics were even worse even though they were fine on an external monitor but the flickering did stop. What graphics does your laptop have.mine was the dreaded geforce 8400 which always fail after a few years.

Apart from your comment about the screen cable, which might be the fault, your other unconstructive comments are frankly wrong, and unhelpful - of course the comments from smos585 are right as general observations. None of us have the benefit of the lappie in front of us, therefore it is naive and silly to make these sweeping statements to general observations - which are in fact correct.
