Part failed? - Warranty expired? Don't give in

The anti-skid warning light failed to go out so a trip to the dealer was called for, but not before I'd researched the situation on the web. Turns out that, just like mine, many others had had the same part fail just months after the warranty had expired. Some had been asked for £1500 although this had been reduced later when it was discovered that only the electronics needed to be replaced.
The dealer produced a report saying it would be over £400 but that the manufacturer would pay 75%. As the car had been sold as a reliable and safety concious vehicle I felt that it should last longer than 3 years:think:
After some to-ing and fro-ing, including discussion with a solicitor(*) I had the part replaced at no charge, and the manufacturer admitted it was a sub-standard part. :j
Given the discussion about this problem on the web it would have been cheaper for them to instantly do a free replacement rather than lose reputation and even a few subsequent sales!
* The solicitor was at no additional cost as I'd purchased annual legal cover with the house insurance.
