How much sun do you get down there?

No sun until late morning, 11.30 a.m. ish?? It starts on the fence side, then full sun for 3-4 hours maybe & then just on the house side for another couple of hours.
What's round the corner - I can see grass - is it yours?

No flies on you is there, Sherlock!! :rotfl:
Yes we have grass in the North-facing back garden ;) Again, this area needs wind-proofing ~ low fencing is a big problem here.
You have some pots: you can grow carrots. And radishes. Spring onions & normal onions. Herbs. Possibly a few beetroot, turnips, parsnips. I've grown all those in pots / tubs. Tomatoes in grow bags wherever it's sunniest - against the fence or the wall?

You should certainly be able to grow something. It can be expensive to fill lots of containers with compost to grow in, but even if you start off small, you can grow a little and slowly build up.

So, what do you like to eat? :D

The pots are only small ~ do you think I could use them for growing fruit or veg?? That would be great if I could :D I like all the things you mentioned above so would any of them grow in small pots?? I do intend buying some nice big pots/troughs ~ I was thinking of putting some stones in the bottom for drainage/using less compost, but I'm guessing that wouldn't be a good idea if I was growing root veg?? :o
Oh, and have a look here.

Thank you, that's going to be really useful for me :T

Ah, north facing eh? That's a bit of a shame.

You can use small pots - you just get less in them! For things like carrots you really need depth though (at least a foot - parsnips even more). Beetroot and turnips sit on top of the soil, so might do better in your more shallow containers, although they can still have quite deep roots. Radishes should be fine, as well as salad crops. Nice big pots and troughs would be better, of course. The main issue with containers is that the plants can only use what you put into it, so feeding and watering is all down to you.

You're welcome. What's going to be first then? :rotfl:
If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.

    Mid MAY?? Blinking heck.

Mine was mid-May last year, but early May this year. It's normal. So you want to be sowing your runner beans at the end of April. ;)

  • Wow, apparently my last frost is late April! I always assumed it was mid-May, for some reason. Well, that's nice to know! :-)

Pink Poppy, is your north-facing garden long enough to get sun at the far end? I mean, I have a town-house with a north-facing garden, but the very end of it has been getting loads of sun for at least a month now, and now about a third of it has sun. So you might be able to plant things in the ground at the far end of your garden?

Oh dear. :( That's where I've had mine during the day but with no ill effects.

Oh it's been rather chilly here today-well I don't suppose it has really for this time of year, but given the glorious week we have had it's felt like autumn again to me (I do feel the cold though!). Not much done in the garden as have been to the farmers market today but hubby has connected our third water butt up and I have weeded part of the front garden, soaked it and mulched it.
Seedlings all still look to be doing ok...for now! :rotfl:
