Travel Insurance to cover cancelled flights

Hi guys

Im looking for cheap but reliable travel insurance for an upcoming holiday. 5 passengers using a number of connecting flights (non EU), so i want something that will cover us if one of the connecting flights is cancelled so that if required we can book a seat on another plane/airline and reclaim the costs through the insurance if our original flight is cancelled or significantly delayed (which would impact the rest of the journey).

Any ideas on insurance providers who cover for this, as most of the ones i have looked at do not specifiy that they cover this in their terms.

Thanks for any info.

If you book the flights on a through ticket, the airline should look after you if you miss a connection.

If you haven't booked yet, then make sure you book connecting flights rather than independent ones.
If you book connecting fligths then the airlines are responsible for providing the entire flight not just a part Whereas if you buy two seperate flights then the first one has no responsibility over the second and the second has no responsibiity if you don't turn up on time.

Thanks guys. Sorry i wasnt clear. I have booked separate flights with two different airlines to reach the final destination.

Can this be covered by travel insurance, incase the first flight is cancelled and i need to find another airline etc?

e.g first flight lands at 18:00pm, then next flight leaves at 11:00am. If the first flight gets cancelled can i get insurance to pay for the cost of buying new tickets with another airline to enable me to arrive and continue the journey on my second flight?

I have no direct experience of this but have a look at something like John Lewis travel insurance policy and the Independent Traveller section

Ok, you misled up there (unintentionally I'm sure).
The term "connecting flights" refers to flights sold as a package where the operator has a liability to get you from A->C where there may be a point B in between.
You have made independent arrangments so you need to get insurance for those independent arrangements.
Don't look for the cheapest policies. You need to check that the cover is adequate.
Look for working like "independent traveller" or "independant arrangements".
