Extended Service Plan for a Dishwasher

I purchased a dishwasher in october 2001 and at the same time took out an extended service plan. Since the purchase of the plan I have changed my surname. My dishwasher has now packed up and been written off by the engineers. I received a letter explaining that my service plan would be making a payment by cheque. I then rang and explained that my name had changed from the name on the original service plan but I am the same person, and have been paying the monthly premiums in my new name through my bank. I was told not to worry and put all the info in writing, which I did also enclosing statements for the dishwasher in my previous name and utility bills in my new name but at the same address. I then received a cheque in my previous name. I rang again and was told to return the cheque as a stop had been put on it and a new cheque had been issued in my new name. That was 2 weeks ago and I havent heard anything. I rang them today and was told that a new cheque has not been issued as I they require the original proof of purchase which I do not have. I have dug out loads of info which I am going to send them, including the original catalogue statement in my previous name which clearly shows that I have purchased the product and the first original purchase plan document, my medical card, first page of a CRB disclosure which shows I have changed my name. Do you think this will be enough or will I still be fobbed off? Im not very good when problems like this arise and desperately need some advice.

It should be enough. I suspect they are trying to ensure that somebody else bought the dishwasher, then sold the house along with the dishwasher to you and you are now trying to claim under their extended guarantee. If I remember correctly, the guarantees are not transferable to second owners.
The CRB page and / or wedding certificate (if you got married) or deed poll document should suffice.0 -
Thanks mattymoo.
I didnt realise it would be such a problem especially as ive been paying the premium in my new name for the last 5 years through my bank.
I'll wait another week or so and see what happens.Be ALERT - The world needs more LERTS0
