I am sorry if there is already a post concerning this issue. I have recently obtained a working holiday visa for my trip to Australia and i am just wondering whether anyone has actually been to australia on a working holiday visa. My main worry is that the person i am going with is a little unsure as to whether they can obtain the £2200 required.

Hi, I went out on a working holiday visa in December 2009/2010.
The Australia Government website http://www.immi.gov.au/visitors/working-holiday/417/ is basically where I got all my information. I went on my own. I only did work experience in the end for Melbourne Fashion Festival but was a great experience!
You have to enter Australia within 12 months of being granted it.
Can I just add going to Australia is not a cheap option, living costs, food, toiletries are all much higher than in england especially with the poor dollar rate at the moment, but its a once in a lifetime.
I would say GO FOR IT!!:T0 -
Yes I did last year. When we arrived in Sydney they checked our passports, gave us a smile and waved us through. I met lots of backpackers and none of them were questioned about money or anything like that. They didnt even mention the fact we were on a visa or ask why we were there or anything, they pretty much just said hi!
I guess they figure that you have a visa that allows you to get a job, so unlike a tourist or someone trying to illegally work there, if you did run out of money, you CAN get a job. So I dont think its at the top of their priorities to check when people are getting off the plane.
I didnt bring anything to show my bank account details. but I guess if they had asked I could have gone on a computer and showed them on the internet.
although - I think you are allowed to have the money on a credit card allowance anyway. I dont think it even has to be cash.0 -
Thanks for the help
everyone I have spoken to has loved Australia so I'm sure I will too. I've heard it's so expensive due to shipping etc any chance that buying local would keep things cheaper?
That's good to hear. I've heard others say they walked straight through however I just really didn't want to be told to "!!!!!! off" so to speak. Although if the credit card business is true that could be a great help. Would it be worth setting up a bank account over there?0 -

I didnt like Sydney thats for sure. If your going working look at working up the north or down in Melbourne - much nicer places."If you no longer go for a gap, you are no longer a racing driver" - Ayrton Senna0 -

May I ask why you didn't like sydney? I'm looking at finding an internship or payed employment in sales media or pr and have been advised that Sydney would be the best place for this.0 -
it was some 16 years ago i went and am sure it rules etc have changed. when i applied you had to show you had 2000 funds. never had it, got money from folks put it in my acc, got a balance printed and sent that off. gave everyone their money back. if you think you may need to prove your funds on arrival ye could do something similar close to yer departure date.
myself and 3 mates did the above just to get the visa, we all arrived with between 500-1000 quid. no hassles.
sunny days down manly beach.
i would recommend younger folk to consider it, getting away, any where in the world, doing it for yerself out yer comfort zone.
