Vanquis Instant Decision - "We'll call you in a few days"

I'm old school and only spend what I have. As a result my credit rating is still good, but suffers because there's no evidence of borrowing and paying back on time. I don't even have a mobile phone contract.
I wanted to change this with a starter credit card from Vanquis. "It is important to be honest with the application" they say. Main benefits of the account: Apply online with Instant decision!
Nice and simple...
I go through the online application and at the end, "Thank you. We just need some further details. We'll call you in the next few days from a number ending..."
That's not an Instant Decision then, is it?
I'm going away Tuesday morning. If I'd known that, I'd have at least waited until after the holiday to apply, or gone with another provider that genuinely does offer an instant decision with everything taken care of online. I daren't apply to another provider now, as multiple attempts at credit will harm my credit score, not help it.
I'm not too bothered by this, but feel a bit aggrieved that they tell me to be completely honest then mislead me in this way!

ONly those that fall within a certain criteria will get the instant decision. TBH though if they don't give you an instant yes its unlikely you'll get it.
As a side note, personally found vanquis a waste of time, try capital one they will accept anyone!!Everyones opinion is the most important.....no wonder nothing is ever agreed on.0 -
That may be the case, but I honestly feel like you should be able to take a statement at face value. It advertised an Instant Decision online. To me, that means a yes or a no, but I suppose they would claim an instant decision was reached - and that decision was that they needed more information!
Slippery so and so's!
I'll ignore the call. I'd rather avoid Roaming charges whilst on holiday and already feel misled by them. I'll try another provider in a few months.
My experian credit rating is 962 - Supposedly "Excellent", but it's not really because there's no evidence of prior borrowing and lending. I followed the link to Vanquis from Experian, it's supposed to be a credit card tailored for people like me who want to build a credit history. It starts with something like a £150 credit limit, and you only need a £4000 a year income. If I can't get accepted for that, I won't get accepted for anything! :rotfl:0 -

I don't think thats the case
many on the MSE Vanquis thread got their card after a call0 -
Thanks custardly, some interesting reading in previous threads. Some claims the call is just an excuse to try and hard-sell you other products and protection, which if true makes matters even worse.
I also just read about 10 posts telling me how much cashback they made. I didn't even think about using my cashback accounts. Such a donkey!
Update 15/Feb/2012... they kept ringing and ringing me, they were really keen. I finally answered and they accepted my application so I now have the credit card.0 -

well its like any credit card, use them intelligently and you have nothing or very little to lose.
I say that as someone who learned the (very) hard way!0 -

Some do some don't. Myself and my other half were both refused vanquis cards but both accepted for capital one cards. Capital one gave a £200 limit then moved it up to £1000 after only 3 monthsEveryones opinion is the most important.....no wonder nothing is ever agreed on.0 -

Usually they will try to sell you something that you didn't really want and will cost you more with the monthly charge etc. Some people just get the call to verify some details.
I suspect a lot of people who say they were accepted after the call were either lucky or signed up for more than a credit card where they only pay for what they buy.Everyones opinion is the most important.....no wonder nothing is ever agreed on.0
