Transfer DLA t0 PIP when you are nearly 65

I am 63 I recieve DLA with the higher mobility componment. Has any one have any idea how the transfere work from DLA to PIP. From what I can gather if you get reassessed after you are 65 you won't get PIP, but a lot of people like me who have been award DLA would under the old scheme get DLA after they are 65, but I can see because of amount of people who are on DLA that I may not get my assessment till after I am 65....

    Hi Roy,

cut and paste below from http://www.dwp.gov.uk/docs/personal-...yment-faqs.pdf this was only published on 16 Jan.

"16. Will pensioners receiving DLA be affected by these changes?

No. At the moment Personal Independence Payment will not replace DLA for those aged over 65.

They can continue to receive DLA so long as they continue to satisfy the qualifying conditions.

We want to see how the assessment for the new benefit works for people of working age before deciding if people over 65 and getting DLA should undertake a new assessment."

    hope this help,s, good luck.

    Terry.
  • Thanks for that. I have to admit I am still a little confused and concerned, as I am now receiving my state pension, but the blurb is saying people of working age ie. 16-65. Do I take it that even though I will be only 63 when this program starts, because I am now receiving my State pension, I will not be affected and will remain on DLA. Sorry if I sound dumb, but I am feeling a little stressed by all of this.

For the time being those over 65 when PIP comes into play are not to be tested. DLA will run alongside PIP for a while.
However the government has not discounted that EVERYBODY irrespective of age will be tested at some time in the future. It appears that they want to see how things go with the first round of re-testing. No doubt if they find that (like IB to ESA) there are a lot more that fail the new benefit test than they expect, then they are likely to push for everyone to be re-tested sooner rather than later.

For those under 65 when PIP comes in, they will be tested under PIP.(They may be 65+ when they are eventually tested - but tested they will).

The only ones safe so far are those who will reach 65 by next April - and they are far from safe it seems.

Probably like me (I am in the same boat as the OP) it will be wiser to accept that you will be tested and given the new regs, lose most or all of the current DLA entitlement.

One saving grace is that at least we will all know that only those who are the most serious disabled will be eligible for the new benefit which is a good thing.
  • there is no point in worrying over this. it wont make any differance to what will be or wont be in the future.
if you are hoping for someone to say everything will be fine they cam , but you will know it may not be true, itl be a guess.
why worry about what may happen later? it will get you nowhere! as someone else said the most severely disabled will still be covered, nobody here can say if that will include you or not.
