how far back for ppi

Hello all

I wonder if anyone here knows the answer but I received a phone call from a company asking me if I had any loans in the past with ppi. I said yes but I did a claim for a loan in 2006 already.
He said the rules have changed you can go back 12 years now.

Has anyone else heard this as well?

Thanks in advance
Nick

I'd be interested in an answer to this, as I had loans with Natwest in the 90's and had to take PPI or the loan wouldnt have gone through

I do not know if any time limit there are no rules ?

My claim for a loan Nat West from the late 90s has been upheld.

    Not paid yet though !

To both of you, whatever you do,dont use a company please.Use the info and guidance from this site for free.

Some dont have paperwork going back more than 6 years, you may have to SAR to get any info, banks dont automatically go back 12 years.

People have wins (me included) from the 90s,if you have reasons for mis sell and the account numbers, then put a claim in.

Therein lies the problem for me amersall - I dont have any such paperwork from those loans in the 90's - anyone had any success from those times with the same problem or know who I need to address to start the ball rolling ?

Give the banks concerned a ring, they may be able to find info on you.
If they cant,do a SAR to each bank, dont know if you will have any joy with this, but it may be worth the £10.

Then he lied. You can go back over the period for which there is evidence.

However, if you made a complaint in 2006 then either you will have received redress in exchange for full and final settlement - so it cannot be revisited - or you will have had it rejected and you cannot now go back and get it reopened.

I don't beleive he was lying, I just got through to a lady at the FOS and she said I can go back to the 90's if I have evidence. I think I might have not explained my question correctly in saying I did recaim PPI for a loan from 2006 and won,but at that time in 2008, we could only go back 6 years. sorry for the confusion.

Probably because they only had 6 years of evidence. Many companies destroy data older than 6 years. Some don't. That is the only place where 6 years currently comes in to play.

  • I had a loan with natwest in 2000 and they said they only keep records for 7yrs so they cannot help me, I have no paperwork for that loan but I do for one I used to clear it and it has the 2000 loans account number. Even though they said they will not have any records is there any way giving them the account number might help?

Is the account (not the loan account but the current) still open?
