Hi looking at Fiesta's at the moment and notuice they come in two engine maximum power PS sizes - 60 to 82.
I think my current Fiesta is a PS 75. Will I really notice much difference if I go for the PS 60 from the PS 75 I have now?
Both are 1.25 engines.
Thank you.

If memory serves me correct the 60ps (or bhp) Fiesta had the older 1.3 engine. The 1.25 litre is a newer design and I seem to recall it is a 16 valve engine. It is rated at 75ps. The lower powered engine won't accelerate as fast but it is possible that the 1.3 may have better torque at lower revs, though I am not in a position to verify that as I only have experience of the 1.3."You should know not to believe everything in media & polls by now !"

Thanks this is a brand new Fiesta with which is in two different PS 60 and 82 both with a 1.25 engine.0 -
The 82bhp model will have much better acceleration than the 60bhp model and according to Fords own figures it accelerates to 60mph 3.6 seconds quicker than the lower powered variant, which is a significant difference. Both models would be in the £90 a year road tax bracket as their emissions are 127 g/km (60bhp) and 129 g/km.
The higher powered version is 1 mpg lower in the combined cycle (51.4 v 50.4) which is negligible.
It doesn't look to be a very torquey engine as the Ford figures for acceleration in 4th gear from 31 to 62mph are 17.9 (60) and 17.6 (82) seconds, so you would need to use the gears in either variant. Compare this with the figure for the 1.4TDCi at 13.9 seconds and 9.9 for the 1.6TDCi.
Both diesels are in the £20 a year road tax bracket.
If you can get a test drive then you should be able to judge the performance for yourself."You should know not to believe everything in media & polls by now !"

I recently switched from a 1998 1.3 (60PS) Fiesta to a new 1.25 (82PS) Fiesta.
The new car has noticeably less torque at low engine speeds than the old 1.3, and has to be revved to out-perform the mighty 1.3 with its 1960s technology. As your current car is a 75PS 1.25, you might not notice much difference.
Both the 60PS and 82PS versions of the new Fiesta are based on the 1.25 engine, which is beginning to look a bit outdated and thirsty compared to more modern engines.
I would recommend going for the 82PS rather than the 60PS version, because the new Fiestas are larger and slightly heavier than any previous model.0 -
If you have the money to spend on a new or nearly new car, I'd look at something bigger. You'll get more toys for your money, more poke from a slightly larger engine, and you'll just enjoy your time in the car more.0

Go for the higher power one,60 bhp "won't pull the skin off a rice puddin'" as we say 'ere oop north0

There seems an awful lot of confusion here, so perhaps I can help clarify (or confuse more!
)
First off, the number of horses you have under the bonnet has little to do with acceleration; it has everything to do with Vmax.
For acceleration you need torque.
Lets start back in the mid 90's as that also confuses matters. Naturally engine technology has moved on considerably since then, but back then Ford offered a cheap., out of date 1.3L engine that produced 103Nm of toque, compared to 110Mn with a much more modern 1.25L engine.
However the 1.3L produced max torque at just 2500rpm compared to 4000rpm that the 1.25L need. The 1.3L produced a maximum power of 60PS compared to that of the 1.25 of 75PS
So back then, the 1.25 had Vmax of 106mph, 0-60mph of 11.9s and the much more useful real world driving of 30-50mph(4th gear) of 9.1s
For the 1.3L, Vmax was 96mph, 0-60mph of 14.8s and 30-50mph in 10.2s
But that's all old hat now. In 2012, Ford use the same 1.25L engine to produce both a low powered 60PS version (suitable for inexperienced drivers) and a more powerful 82PS version.
For the 60PS version (max torque 109Nm), Vmax is 94mph. 0-62 16.9s and a 31-62mph (again in 4th) of 17.9s
For the 82PS version (max torque 114Nm), Vmax is 104mph. 0-62 13.3s and 31-62mph of 17.6s.
If all that data still leaves you confused, then the correct advice is, as given previously, to go to a dealer and ask to try both variants before you buy to ensure you are happy with your decision."Now to trolling as a concept. .... It looks like Ford will be using a new 3 cylinder turbocharged engine in the next Fiesta - see here:
