I just re-read your original post. Is the suspect light fitting part of the extractor fan?

If so, that may well be tricky to find a replacement light fitting. Probably better to buy a whole new fan/light in that case.

I'm not sure if it is part of the extractor fan or not to be honest...as you can probably guess I'm not the most technically minded :P All I know is, when you pull the cord for the light to come on usually both come on, i.e extractor fan and lightbulb. Does that mean they're linked?

If so, would it be safe to just use the new light fitting above the shower and leave the old one (and just use it as the extractor fan?)

Sorry, I should have been clearer. What I meant to say was if the light was integrated inside the fan housing, it would be tricky to replace. Like this:

If not, it shouldn't be a problem. If the existing fitting is a spot light fitting, you just need to buy a new low-voltage spot light fitting.

Can you take a photograph of the old fitting and post it on here?

It is kind of like that...the fan bit is at the back, behind the light, when you pull the bulb out you can see the fan. So it is like a complete unit but the fan is at the back of the light rather than around it

Going back to one of my previous posts, it probably is a combination of loose fittings and vibration from the fan causing the bulb to work loose over time.

It depends on the manufacturer of the fan/fitting whether the light fitting is available separately.

Might be better just to replace the whole unit. Is that additional light now needed as you have a new light?

No, I'd manage with just the new light, but would still need to use the extractor fan...would it be safe to use the extractor fan still but without the light? Sorry to keep bombarding you with questions!

Yes' it's fine to use the extractor fan on its own but ensure there is a bulb (even a blown one) in the fitting - to stop water getting inside.

The alternative is to replace the whole fan/light fitting if you need direct light above.
