I wouldn't turn down an offer of free plants! It's traditional in the gardening world to help each other out and it's moneysaving!:money:
Strawberries produce runners and new plants every year. It's 10 minutes' work to dig them up and wrap them, and you can always pass the goodwill on when your own plants are producing runners!

    Hi,

I am new to gardening - jsut got our first garden and I am keen to have it looking nice. I jsut planted few blueberry plants and would like to get some strawberries. Can anyone suggest which variety I should go for?

Did you use ericaceous compost or peat for the blueberries? They need this to grow well as they prefer acidic soil conditions.

Strawberries - Elsanta is a good reliable one. Maxim is a big variety that I have grown well. An alpine I am trying this year is Mignonette.

Feed strawberries with calcified seaweed (the old maxicrop) as they love it. You can also companion plant strawberries with spinach!

  • i wouldn't mind taking people up on offers like that. i'm quite getting into this gardening lark, and i like it even better when it's free :)

so, if you don't mind, could i have one or two, pretty pretty please? i'm wanting to try growing strawberries with my lil girl, and not having much dosh, they would be very gratefully received...(pm sent - need more details)

i only have a tiny yard, but plan on making the most of it this summer(if we get some sunshine!) and hopefully, we'll be eating our own, if, as you say, the slugs don't get em first....
