Ikea - wardrobe bought, but no hinges!

Surely if it was a flat pack sold not fit for purpose, I'd start politely arguing on this angle the sale of goods act. Surely the hinges would be a universal fit for the product doors and should be included in the fixing kit.
It all sounds ludicrous, this is bad publicity for them. Doors need hinges, they supply flat pack furniture.
Furniture being the operative word, a door can not become a wardrobe door unless you are provided the facility to fix it to make it function as a wardrobe door.
Misled and mis-sold especially if the parts were not readily available and it wasn't flagged up at point of sale.
Why is it not fit for purpose, sounds like you buy everything seperately, and the whole kit, each purchased seperately becomes the furniture.
I'm getting sick to death of this whole Mis-sold, how about people taking responsibility for their own actions.0 -

What a pile of uninformed rubbish.
The hinges are universal, but the frame is openly advertised in the catalogue as not requiring doors to be used - indeed some of the internal fittings are designed for the unit NOT to have doors.
The OP could have ordered online and there would not be a problem.
Instead the OP went to a store, ill prepared for the purchase they intended to make.
As has been previously said, this is a consumer rights board - the rights of the consumer in this case are none - there is no obligation for IKEA to provide the hinges free of charge or post or vice versa.
Basically, the OP assumed and now wants IKEA to fit their assumption - thats not IKEA's fault. Its the OP's fault.
The information online relates to online - if it related to in store it would say in store.
I agree with jonnyd281 - the misuse of this fit for purpose and mis sold lines is really not helping people looking for correct answers on this board.0 -
The flat pack is the components used to make the frame. The components were all there, as stated on the contents list, therefore it's fit for purpose.
The hinges are a separate item. It's only not fit for purpose if the hinges should have been INCLUDED with the frame, but that isn't the case.
OP, there's no way Ikea are going to send you free hinges or post them to you for free - or indeed any combination of the above. They are a separate, paid for item that you didn't pick up.
Granted, they may not have had signs up and they may not have had baskets where you were looking, but there's no clause in the SoGA that says the store has to merchandise all items from a set together.
Your 'claim' rests on the lack of signage. Other posters have said their local stores have that signage, so maybe the branch you visited had just moved things round and not put the whole display back up yet? Either way, unless it's still the same now, how are you ever going to prove to Ikea that the hinges and signs weren't in place?0 -
Can you get some hinges from your nearest Wickes or similar, or do they have to be IKEA hinges? Just an idea."It's official, MSE's harbouring total fruitcakes">^..^<0

I did go in fully prepared, I wrote down all the codes from the internet, the frame, the doors, the drawers & the shelves, all codes written down.
I saw online hinges were included, and there wasn't even a code for hinges, so it wasn't on my check list of things to tick off.
I know I have posted on Consumer Rights, wasn't sure where else to post. I'm not after a big legal battle with Ikea! Just some advice on the situation to try to get some hinges! I obviously take some responsibility, just not 100%.
I can't go again, newborn baby, no babysitter & partner unable to take any more time off work as took time off for baby.
I'll ring Monday & hope someone lovely takes pity on me & helps me out.
Thanks for replies.
Edit: It's nothing to do with being over budget, I actually was willing to pay £50ish more for Birkland doors, but after inspecting both instore decided it wasn't worth the extra money. I had a total spent of £500, so £5 - £15 wasn't going to kill me. Wish I'd saved £10 on the crappy lunch though!:j - DS - 7

As people have pointed out, that range gives the option of using the carcass in a manner that does not necessarily use doors, or can use doors with hinges.
As a result, unfortunately that is why in-store the hinges are separate.
Whilst you may try appealing to Ikea to supply them free, I think your easiest option will be just to pay for them and get them delivered. It will certainly lead to a lot less stress and allow you to get your furniture assembled & complete.0 -
But I can,t even do that, they are not available to buy online, as online they are included with the doors.
Also I understand you can you the frame without doors, my issue is you cannot use the doors without hinges, and I thought they were with the doors.:j - DS - 7

Just to add my opinion. I had a similar issue last weekend. It was a 25 mile journey to my nearest IKEA.
Bought the PAX Wardrobe frame and two doors (plus a couple of shelves and clothes rail). And yes, we forgot the hinges... Now while I fully accept that it was our fault to check that we had everything necessary, I just thought that IKEA could give a reminder to pick up hinges, either when using the 'planning desk' computer application in-store, OR at the checkout when putting through a wardrobe frame and doors! (And yes, I agree with the previous poster - how on earth would you want to buy doors WITHOUT hinges!!?)
We thought that the door packs would possibly contain their own hinges, but because there's a choice between standard and soft-closing, that wouldn't be viable. (Funnily enough, the particular doors we chose actually come with their own handles!)
I just think it's daft that IKEA don't want to help their customers, for the sake of a couple of easy things they could do to ensure people leave with the right items. It's an all too easy mistake to make I reckon.
Needless to say, another 50 mile round trip the next day was required to pick up hinges, which left tempers somewhat frayed! ;o)0
