I had a bank account years ago with A & LFormely known a santander i think. Ihavent used the account in years, but it is sitting at over £1500 in dept, This is all due to late payment fees and stuff. I sent a letter in to them years ago asking for it to be reunded etc. I got a letter back saying that the banks had won the court cas, and basically i have to pay back all the money.
Is there anything can do as they are still adding on fees every month.
Thanks in advance

I have held two current accounts with Yorkshire Bank for years. A sole one in my name only for over 20 years and a joint one with my husband for over 10 years. The joint one does not have an overdraft facility. Recently we took out a credit card with M & S (card-tarting to pay caravan site fees interest free over 12 months ..thank you Martin !). Anyway, my husband filled out the credit card application form and signed it, not realising he had also signed a direct debit agreement for our joint account (if I had known, I would have used my account for this as it has the most money in it). A few weeks before the first payment was due, my husband had a discussion with M & S to ask them when the first payment was due, as we were going on holiday. He was told that it would be three weeks hence. At that point, my husband advised M & S that we would not be paying by direct debit as the choice was either the minimum payment or payment in full (and we wanted to split the amount owed over a year to benefit best from this). Upon our return from holiday, Yorkshire Bank wrote to us to advise that due to a direct debit for £62 being applied to our joint account, and there being insufficient funds at the time, they had applied an "unauthorised overdraft" fee of £35.00 We contacted M & S and they have offered a goodwill £15 refund in vouchers. Yorkshire Bank however, will not budge on refunding the money. The overdraft was for 24 hours until I realised and credited the account to avoid further charges. Yorkshire bank state that no refund will be made of the 35 pound charge as it was justified.....so, long story short ... is this disproportionate ?0

Not according to the law.
See if M&S will agree to change the bank account details to yours. They're already aware of the situation and good for them to offer £15 vouchers as good will.0 -

Hello ToriW
Not sure why you haven't used the account for years nor why you let the fees spiral the way they have.
Were you suffering financial hardship and couldn't meet the payments? Are you in hardship now? Check on MSE and see if you are eligible to claim back fees under the hardship route. Use MSE site for guidance as to how to go about it. It's entirely up to the good will of the bank as to whether they pay some or all of the money. Usually it's nothing as they are not obliged to give anything back.
If no hardship applies to you I would seriously think about getting advice about a dmp.0
