Would like to leave Talk Talk

Hi everyone,

I would like to leave Talk Talk who are my home phone provider for land line rental and calls as their charges seem to be getting higher. I mostly use Skype with a £4.59 monthly flat rate for all of my UK calls, but once in a while I use my land line. I was considering the Post Office with the deal as shown here on MSE, but looking at the Post Office website, they mention that "A call connection charge of 9.6p per call will be applied to all chargeable calls excluding those with a fixed fee element". Do all providers charge a connection fee, and if yes, is this 9.6p charge from the Post Office reasonable?

Thanks for your help!

It's not charged on all calls, only on chargeable ones (i.e those outside your inclusive call allowance).
Yes, all providers charge a connection charge.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)

Yes 9.6p is quite good compared to most of the others.
http://adsl24.co.uk/linerental/ are one that don't charge a connection/setup fee on chargeable calls, not that I'd recommend them as they don't have inclusive calls and rental isn't especially cheap.
Do you need broadband as well? If so, have a look at the deals Plusnet are doing at the moment, but it depends on you broadband usage.
If your ultimate phone provider uses BT WLR, then consider 18185 for most of your chargeable calls (5p connection, 0p/min for calls to UK Landlines).
  • Thank you for the replies, and yes, I do use broadband but as I often work from home, I need good speed. The deal I have at the moment is quite good. It's from Orange and as I have my mobile with them on a monthly plan, I get unlimited broadband at around 18 megs speed for £5 per month. I think it would be difficult to find a better deal.

And I will certainly look into 18185 as that sounds great.
