There may be vans available, but if it was going to work out faster (with the amount of parcels vs the amount of vans) for you to pick it up then a card through the door seems sensible.
"Sorry you were out" seems a tad hypocritical, but then again "Sorry, it was too big to carry and the vans are going the other way" seems a bit long
I'd be interested to know if, and it might be the case, when you post an item you're paying for the promise it will be brought to your home or if that's an assumption we make because letters are, and it's within the 'charter' of the Royal Mail to say large items being collected is acceptable?
nope,not covered under RMs licence
they are paid to attempt delivery0 -
I know a postie, they have been given ridiculous targets to meet, for example the P.O delivery drivers have 3 minutes per parcel regardless of distance, obstacles they may come across.0

thats right, however posties need (unfortunatly) to fight their(and their customers) corner
If the workload is unachievable, then you push the onus onto the manager to deal with it.
sadly this is a guarantee you will be harrased on a daily basis, holidays wil be hard to get etc etc0 -
when i was a postie quite a few years back it was common for the drivers to give the postman the "sorry we missed you" cards as it saved them doing their round and still etting paid for it.
The scam used to be, Driver goes sick (on full pay) so another driver does his round and books overtime. He does not actually deliver the parcels he just writes the cards out.
When the postie that was off sick comes in the next day he delivers them. He would then cover his mates round when he went off sick later in the week doing the same and claiming the overtime.
That way they both have a full weeks wage plus overtime for the shift they covered.

There is a limit to how much a posties bag can weigh but no limit on the number of bags they have,
Most bags are dropped off for the postie to collect during their round.
When i was on the post i used to have roughly 4 very full bags of mail for roughly 600 delivery points.0 -

Tee hee, this brought a big smile to my face! :rotfl:The bigger the bargain, the better I feel.
I should mention that there's only one of me, don't confuse me with others of the same name.0 -

I'm not sure I fully understand this scam, or whether they would actually get sick pay for 1 day off. Wouldn't last long either going off sick so often.0 -

doesnt really matter
different era
nowadays you can expect an SD letter within your 1st 3 days off sickness
a request to attend a meeting within the 1st week
plenty of phonecalls to check your 'progress'0 -

This was around 23 years ago and it was rife.
Overtime was paid at one rate for the first 5 or so hours then time and a half for up to 12 hours then double pay for any hours worked over 12.
It was common to take home 50% of your wage in overtime on top.
Things started to change when i left so im sure its nothing like it now.
Used to have a saying in my office "bookie no tookie" ie booked the overtime but never took the delivery out0 -

yes I can tell you its very different
for a start most of what was overtime in your time,is now papped onto exisiting duties every day
its a constant battle of a manager telling you that you have time to do X extra delivery plus your existing delivery0
