What paint is best value?

Use a microfibre roller, and a decent quality brush for cutting in. Good brushes are worth it.F&B is overpriced and overhyped and not very good IMHO.
That is also the opinion of a lot of the pros on the Ultimate Handyman forum, though F&B is very popular where I work.
Paint and Paper Library is supposed to be good, but not cheap.
Regarding having the paint mixed, I wonder if that would make it harder to match when doing touch ups at a later date?Warning: This forum may contain nuts.0 -
The people who owned my house before me used Farrow and ball. But they didn't do a good job because really it needed an extra coat - they were tight using it. I have assumed because of the costs that they couldn't afford it. I've now painted over it - I only use Dulux (I used Barley white for the downstairs rooms)
I actually don't like their colours. I couldn't name any of the colours - they were all greeny/beige, grey/blue, mustard/green. I didn't like it!0 -
I secoind leyland paint, they can mix it in dulux, crowne colours. really good finishe and great coverage:rotfl: l love this site!! :rotfl:0

We redecorated a few room last year and happened to get some clearance paints from B&Q, we had some B&Q for the living room, Dulux for one bedroom and Crown for another bedroom. Of the three the Crown was the nicest to use, it went on easier than the others and despite covering a bright colour one coat was enough (it wasn't even the one coat stuff) Dulux was second best and B&Q was quite rubbish.
We also picked up some clearance high quality rollers and paintbrushes (2 rollers and 6 brushes for £5) and they were better than any cheap ones we've used in the past. I always thought it was just the paint that mattered but next time I decorate I'm budgeting a little extra for better brushes and roller too.....although the ones from last year are still in great condition and can be used again.0 -
Leyland/Johnstones every time. Not the cheapest, but excellent quality - only available from trade centres, but there are plenty of them around the Country and they will mix colours to match other swatches.
It is a false economy to buy cheap as you may well end up doing more coats so you use more paint, but more importantly the job ends up taking ages!Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. I'm using Little Green paints for the walls and they are fantastic, but expensive for the amount I need. Need to find a good and cheaper white for ceilings, but not that crazy about "brilliant white". Any good flat whites out there?0

We have just painted our new build house with Johnstones try and steer clear of the big sheds and seek value in the trade outlets.0

Thanks everyone - all useful comments. I think I'll use Dulux mixed in F&B-like colours.0

I hope the cottage comes out great, this sounds like a fun project. I agree with some of the other commenters, you need to use quality interior paint if you want the colors to look nice. Even if you have to spend a bit more on paint, it will most likely be worth it in the long run.0
