How long should a fridge-freezer last?

General question I know but we have a CAPLE one that has broken beyond repair after 3 years. The engineer CAPLE despatched claims it's a manufacturing fault and told us that a fridge-freezer of this type should last 5 years. The warranty of course, is for only 1.

Did you get any sort of written report from the engineer?
If you have this, then you should approach the retailer that you purchased the FF from and advise then that you don't consider 3 years to be a satisfactory life for a freezer.

They should offer to repair or replace the FF, or they can offer a partial refund, with the offer taking into account the 3 years use you've had from the unit.

The problem here is that Caple is a brand at the lower end of the market, so personally wouldn't be confident of it having a very long life compared to a major brand appliance. However, if the engineer said it's a manufacturing fault & has given you some documentation to prove this, then contact the retailer as previous poster suggests. (Is it Howden's as I've an idea they sell some Caple appliances?).

If it is Howdens & you bought via a builder/kitchen fitter, be aware that they would have received quite a sizeable discount on the appliance, but charged you the inflated list price.
