Compulsary time with previous supplier when moving house

Hi i completely agree with you about the length of time it takes, we moved in on sep 3 and the previous tenants were with british gas dual fuel standard tariff. We paid almost £150 for the period until 16 October when Co op took over the supply. Co-op were good about telling us the date they would take over when i signed up, and it went without a hitch, they were much cheaper (£63 dual fuel a month), customer service is a real person straight away. I seem to remember there was something in parliament recently about switching, this article says that they now have to do it within 3 weeks, by law. The law was passed in November but I don't know if it applies from that date or if the energy companies have a certain period of time to get with the programme!

maybe you could quote that to them, I would take it up with both suppliers about how long it took, mention the law, make a written complaint to both and try to get a partial refund on your first month's bill as a goodwill gesture. hth and good luck!
