Why not organise them into folders with Windows Explorer?
Tag them with the Properties dropdown in Win Explorer too.
Then import them to Sonicstage or whatever Sony software is current for their Walkmen, and copy to the player0 -

Once the tags are all right, you can rename the files automatically from the tag info, then sorting them out is easy.0 -
Media Monkey is great and free. Give it a shot, it should cover everything you need and can easily export playlists etc if you decide to switch to another program. It's pretty quick at tagging full albums/artists.0

Media Monkey will do the trick.
Using iTunes when you haven't got an iPod is a waste of time - and it's not as good anyway.

having used iTunes (and having had to switch to MediaMonkey) I'm of the view that iTunes assumes everything in your library has been downloaded from their store. It therefore does everything it can to stop you "owning" the music and having free access to do what you want with it. The indexing is a nightmare and deliberately made so that you don't know where any music file is.
I use windows mediaplayer to create the mp3's (into my own file naming standards) and then import into MediaMonkey. I only create the indexes in MediaMonkey so that the music can be duplicated/backed-up etc at will. As I create more mp3's I periodically get MM to update it's indexes and incorporate the new stuff.
good luck0 -
Another vote for MediaMonkey
it's lightweight and loads extremely fast (unlike that giant piece of bloatware called iTunes) Now free from the incompetence of vodafail0 -
media monkey will do the job!0

Quite! And itunes installs Bonjour and other stuff that will slow down your PC. Had to use Revo uninstaller to get rid of the damn thing.having used iTunes (and having had to switch to MediaMonkey) I'm of the view that iTunes assumes everything in your library has been downloaded from their store.
