Can I rent out my allotment?
Had my patch for a few years, the council are putting up rates, its now very expensive.
There are year long waiting lists, demand is very high for these plots. I do not want to give mine up because done lots of work over the years.
I wouldnt mind renting it out over the summer and then take it back.
Havent been there for ages so no one recognises anyone there any way.

Imagine if China started paying housing benefit the same as the UK. Half a billion people would move from the slums in tin can huts to all these new apartments they are building every year. Property prices would double from where they are now.

Read the rules of your site, but I don't think you can sublet a plot.Signature removed club member No1.
It had no link, It was not to long and I have no idea why.0 -
Very unlikely - speak to your allotment site rep or your local allotment Federation rep, maybe they would agree to split it to make to half plots - one for you & one for someone who would appreciate it & use it all year round?0

How much do you pay for it?0

No, and it might well lose you the plot. If you did, the person who you sublet to will not be insured by the allotment soc either.
Ask the comittee if you can split the plot or share.0 -
No I very much doubt you can. Do you know anyone who could help you for a share of the produce.
Or there are ways in which you can just work on part of the plot at a time. You don't have to do it all at once.0 -
Our allotment site allows you to have an associate member, who pays a lower rate of membership that you can then share your plot with.
You could make an arrangement with someone and do something similar.
This is usually how people get round the situation but I guess it depends on the conditions of your allotment agreement.
On our site, people will be challenged if they are not recognised (I even had to inform the committee when my parents were going on my site to water when I was on holiday). They will usually (for example) challenge if a woman is on a plot where the plot holder is male, etc. This is to discourage people from stealing produce, etc. Thanks to MSE, I am mortgage free!
