Speed Camera

I have just recieved a ticket in the post for a fine from a speed camera, but i was not in the area at the time, in fact i dont even know the area! Does anyone know what the camera catches is it the front or back of the car and can i prove it isnt my car, and maybe someone using the same number plates. I contacted the police and they just said i had to put in writing to the place i send the money. Just wanted some info before doing this so i can maybe send a picture to show my car at the same time as the letter.
Hope this makes sense and hope you can help me, all your money savers.

Try this forum, they are very good with speeding and may be able to help you.
clicky
If you have received the NIP (notice of intended prosecution) they have a tool on there they ask you to fill out first, as it helps with answering the question. Do this and they are much more helpful as it looks like you have read what to do and arent just blanketing forums.

this happened to me about a year ago. i rang the dept involved and explained this could not be me (caught in sussex at 3.40pm while at work in ne england) they said the camera was never wrong!!!!!! asked to speak to a manager who then ckecked the picture while i waited on the line. it turned out that the reg had been written down incorrectly. an apology followed in the post. held on to it mind just in case. hope this helps.0

Its also possible someone has 'cloned' your numberplate. In most places now, if you try & get one made you have to produce your registration document to 'prove' you own the vehicle & need one.

Scary. We have one of those speed check things that flashes at you if you exceed the limit, but it always triggers at 28mph. Don't know if it's a camera as well, hope not under the circumstances!!0 -

I also had one, about 3 years ago, whilst I was in hospital and no one had access to my car as I had the keys.
I rang the number, had to go to a police station with the NIP and my vechicle registration document, insurance (I assume to ensure I was insured and for further number plate verification) and a letter from the hospital, I was told it was then to the the CPS whether I'd have to go to court!!
3 weeks later I had a letter saying that I had proved I was the owner but there appeared to be anothe vehicle with my plates on, they said on this occassion they wouldn't prosecute me and I never heard anything else, though there was no mention of them trying to catch the person who had identical plates to me!£2 Coin Savers Club (Christmas)- £86£1 Jar (Christmas)- £29Christmas Vouchers Saved: £1450
