Can I dump estate agents and sell privately

Why do you hope this?
Because it will bring down house prices even more.
Besides, a couple of grand is too much money to pay the EA for not much work on their part.
I know EAs are struggling at the mo, but its just because property is in a bear market. Wehn the bottom has been reached and the next bull market starts again, there will be EAs popping up everwhere?Imagine if China started paying housing benefit the same as the UK. Half a billion people would move from the slums in tin can huts to all these new apartments they are building every year. Property prices would double from where they are now.0 -

Where's the rolling eyes smiley when you need it?
How on earth will it bring down house prices!?!My home is usually the House Buying, Renting and Selling Forum where I can be found trying to (sometimes unsucessfully) prove that not all Estate Agents are crooks. With 20 years experience of Sales/Lettings and having bought and sold many of my own properties I've usually got something to sayIgnore......check!0 -
Tell us what work you think is involved, please.....
Taking a few poor quality photos, then in the style of local agent Reeds Rains, adjusting the aspect of these photos by stretching them wide. They seem to think it makes the room look bigger when really even a small child could tell the image has been stretched.
Then writing up a description with all the English skills of a 10 year old, full of exaggerated half truths, flagrant use of the words delightful and spacious and finally stick a silly price on the end.
Then carry out viewings with a look of general uninterest, state the obvious at every opportunity.
Then laugh and act generally demeaning when you put in a sensible offer.
Put your feet up cos there's nothing else to do.0 -
I am currently selling my parents (recently deceased) property through dixons estate agents in Birmingham. It has been on the market since august so I am well out of my original contract period.
What I want to know is can I get rid of the agents and sell directly to one of the potential buyers who has made an offer? I managed to track the details down of the potential buyer and can contact him directly.
Do dixons have any comebacks?
Check the contract because there are some clauses saying that you owe fee at a specified time limit (6 months some ties) after the contract expiration; these limits apply when you appoint another agent but may be longer at other circumstances.
I know some buyers after the expity period, rent their flat to make sure they are away from the limit time."I'll be back."0
