Replacing a 9.8kw shower with a 9.5kw

Hi folks,

Just wondering if anyone can offer me any advice on replacing an electric shower.

Our 9.8kw Mira Sport model is playing up, running normal hot temperatures then runs cold suddenly. It does this randomly and I can confirm no other appliances (washing machines, dishwashers, taps etc) are running at the same time when this happens. The shower was been in the house since I bought it about 4 years ago and I'm sure cold have been installed maybe 5 years prior to that.

I wanted to replace the shower myself if possible, without the hassle of getting a plumber out or drilling new holes. I've found a model, the Mira Sprint 9.5kw, which appears to have the same screw fittings and electric/water connections as the old one. My question is is the slight drop in kw going to cause me problems? Having researched kw I see that certain wire/amps need upgrading when you go up kw (say from 8.5 to 9.5) but is this the same when you drop? I'm hoping that it is such a small drop that existing fittings will work fine?

Thanks for your help!

you would only need to upgrade if installing a 12kw shower as its slightly less kw it wont be a problem

You've done the homework so know the issues, :T, just be certain that the existing cable is correctly rated for the shower. Yes I know it's been fine but it's reasuring to have checked. ;)
I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.

Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)

The difference between 9.8kW and 9.5kW is tiny, and will not make any difference in practice.

The ratings on cables, switches are a maximum. You won't get any problems fitting a lower power shower.

But it might be worth checking that they are actually rated correctly for the shower. It's not unknown for people to uprate a shower without uprating the wiring to match.
    If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.
