hi
i hope that someone can answer some of my questions
my husband found out yesterday that he will be made redundant on jan 31st.
we have two children (12 & 2), i work part time and bring home between £650 - £750 a month. my hours vary each week between 16 - 22 i'm a community carer so it depends on the client list.
we live in a council house
what if any help are we entilted to? and where do we start ? as we've never been in this position before and haven't a clue
many thanks

Is your husband going to get a redundancy package?
If you put your household details into one of the benefits calculators, putting your household income minus that of your husband's salary you'll get a rough idea of what you may be able to claim.

Your husband is likely to be able to claim Jobseekers Allowance and as a household you may be able to claim council tax benefit and housing benefit.
If you're receiving tax credits then you need to inform them of a change in household income and they'll reassess you which may mean getting an increase in payments.
Is there any way you can increase your hours and work full time?
Hopefully your husband's lack of a job will be short term thing and he'll get a job soon but it's best to be prepared.

Depending on contributions made - JSA(C) for your husband for the 1st 6 months. Then JSA(IB) if on a low income. For the children ChB and CTC you may also get WTC as you work 16hrs+ per week. However, from April 2012 couples must work at least 24 hrs between them to claim WTC. You may also get Council Tax and Housing Benefit/LHA if you're on a low income.0
